The CAHMI uses the definition developed by the Maternal and Child Health Bureau (MCHB) to define CSHCN: "those who have a chronic physical, development, behavioral, or emotional condition and who also require health and related services of a type or amount beyond that required by children generally." The Children with Special Health Care Needs Module
The Children with Special Health Care Needs (CSHCN) Module, developed by the CAHMI, is a set of survey-based methods and tools designed to identify children with special health care needs and measure the basic aspects of health care quality for this population.
