Standardized Developmental Screening (SDBS) - Overview
Standardized Developmental and Behavioral Screening (SDBS)
The American Academy of Pediatrics Statement on Identifying Infants and Young Children with Developmental Disorders in the Medical Home (July, 2006) calls for pediatric clinicians to routinely screen children for developmental delays using standardized and validated tools. The CAHMI is working on a number of projects related to the measurement of standardized developmental and behavioral screening (SDBS).
  • CAHMI developed parent-completed survey items assessing whether a standardized developmental screening tool was administered using a parent-completed tool. These items are included in the Promoting Healthy Development Survey, the 2007 National Survey of Children’s Health, and can be administered as stand-alone items in existing surveys about health care that is provided to children.
  • Secondly, the CAHMI serves as the primary consultant to the Assuring Better Child Development (ABCD) states (ABCD II, ABCD Screeing Academy) evaluation measures on standardized screening using claims data, medical charts (or record reviews) and/or parent surveys and other evaluation measures of improvement efforts focused on screening.
